However, the cost of living is much lower in China and these sums (especially with the added benefit of free accommodation) will enable the teacher to have a very comfortable lifestyle.

These salaries are well above the average wage in China. The status and lifestyle of a foreign teacher in China would be higher than that of an English teacher in England.

The Benefits are:

The School will purchase medical insurance for the teacher. However, teachers should consider their own insurance needs and seek appropriate advice.

How many teaching hours per week?

Generally around 22 hours per week of in-class teaching. The teacher will not be required to teach on national public holidays. In addition to national public holidays, the School will provide the teacher with winter vacation salary (which is about 3 weeks) if the teacher signs one academic contract.

Who selects the students’ textbooks?

Generally textbooks are selected by the School as appropriate for the course but the programme is progressive and will include some flexibility.

What contract will there be?

Teachers are recommended for appointment by ASEC but they will each sign a contract directly with the School. This will be done before the teacher comes to Chiba.

What are the teacher’s responsibilities?

Teachers will be responsible for ensuring they meet all passport, visa and medical requirements currently in force and complying with all customs and legal requirements. This leaflet is a General Information Leaflet only and is subject to contract (i.e. to the specific contract between the School and the Teacher).

ASEC is an educational consultancy and does not contract with the teacher. It makes no charge to the teacher and incurs no legal liability for or by reason of the contractual arrangements made between the School and the Teacher. If an appointment is recommended the Teacher will be offered a contract specifying the salary for that particular teacher plus the other contractual conditions. It will be signed on behalf of the School by one of the School’s senior executive officers.
